about

A really early example of a true Folk-Rock hybrid.

The song began life as a nice little Scottish sounding folk ditty, until Al began playing over the top. Dave and Derek looked at each other and immediately sped up the tempo, making it rock enough to take full advantage of Al's playing. James added his trusty cowbell to complete the picture.

Dave's driving rock guitar rhythm is complemented beautifully by Al Perkins' scorching guitar solo lines...two individual melodies weaving in and out of each other, and each done in one single take....no overdubs or retakes. If you ever wondered why everyone in the know thinks so highly of Al Perkins' guitar playing, you just have to listen to this track. The man's amazing.

It's a great pity that he didn't play on more songs on this album, but he believed it wasn't needed. That may be true, but it would have been nice, nevertheless.

Why

Why do we always run away
From the only one that matters
Why do we always turn away
From the only one that matters

You look at me like I’m a fool
But I didn’t make the rules
I just want to help you

So why do we always run away
From the only one that matters

Why—do we always run away
From the only one that matters anyway

You look at me like I’m a fool
But I didn’t make the rules
